terrific performance of the SUPER ACE...much to my surprise, it actually outperforms most of my non-scale sport models, and certainly is the best scale type design I have flown. In another MICRO R/C construction article, which included the "1/8A" MINI-CORBEN SUPER ACE, Dave said "All are easy to fly, being much more gentle than many larger types."
SUPER QUIET "1/8A" SETUP: Dave used a COX .020 propeller (4˝" D x 2" P), instead of the supplied .010 propeller (3" D x 1.25 P), on all of his COX TEE DEE .010 powered MICRO R/C models for a pleasant soft engine sound and a much lower engine note. Dave said, "With exhaust restrictor, engine cannot be heard from 30 feet away!"
Dave's construction article includes a picture with the caption, "Here's U-control without the wires. A natural project for small spaces." The picture shows Dave flying the MINI-CORBEN SUPER ACE in very small circles, around himself and his hand-held transmitter, with only rudder control! Dave called "1/8A" MICRO R/C "Backyard flying at its best with tiny scale planes…." With today's breakthrough MICRO R/C equipment and MICRO-FLITE®'S patented THERMAL EXHAUST THROTTLE™ (PET™), the "1/8A" MINI-CORBEN SUPER ACE could be flown "FULL-HOUSE" (4-channel!) for even much better control, at the same ready-to-fly weight.
With Dave's SUPER QUIET "1/8A" SETUP, the internal combustion engine is virtually on par with the quietest electric powerplants of similar power or weight for truly SUPER QUIET "1/8A" BACKYARD MICRO R/C flying. Indeed with the advent of MICRO-FLITE®'S recently patented THERMAL EXHAUST THROTTLE™/PROGRESSIVE MUFFLER the internal combustion engine now qualifies for what BACKYARD FLYER claims on the cover of their magazine: "RADIO CONTROL FLYING...ANYWHERE, ANYTIME." No longer will e-power be virtually the only QUIET powerplant available for BACKYARD MICRO R/C. There now is definitely a new kid on the block! (See G-POWER vs. E-POWER.)
